These templates are for cutting and embossing. By turning the template over you can also make a complete design out of the half design, so that it is possible to cut apertures and emboss around them. You can also put the template on top of the card and cut half of the design. Then follow the dotted line of the template with the embossing stylus and fold half of the paper out. The corner patterns can be embossed separately.
